With a growing reputation as online players, the team had a lot to prove. As the dust settles in Atlanta, however, it’s clear that this team are the real deal.
Having swept their pool, eUnited’s first test in the winner bracket might almost have changed the tournament entirely. Going 2-0 down to Splyce, it took a reverse sweep from the squad to move on. Facing FaZe next would once again be a challenge, another five game series that eUnited were able to clinch for a spot in the winner bracket final.
Here was perhaps eUnited’s most dominant moment of the tournament, crushing EnVyUs 3-0 in the rematch to guarantee a top two finish. Standing between them and the trophy would be Call of Duty’s final boss, an OpTic Gaming that had worked its way back through the loser bracket.
The second series would be a much closer affair. eUnited were able to reset with a win in the very first hardpoint, but OpTic soon dealt them another demoralising blow, coming back from 2-5 down to win the SnD 6-5. Taking Uplink once again, OpTic looked in command of the final, just one map away from taking the trophy.
Again eUnited were able to take a narrow hardpoint victory to force a game five, and again they took the lead in the Search and Destroy. This time, eUnited didn’t allow OpTic to really regain a footing, however, closing the map 6-3 and taking the MLG Atlanta trophy with it.
